Tame the Dark

Tame the Dark is a powerful and intimate 54-minute documentary exploring life with Limb Girdle Muscular Dystrophy type 2i (LGMD2i), a rare, progressive, and little-known muscle-wasting disease that reshapes every aspect of a person’s life. Through the eyes of individuals at different life stages, from newly diagnosed children to teenagers navigating lost strength and fading independence, to adults facing the daily erosion of mobility. The film steps into their homes and hearts to uncover what it truly means to live with an uncertain and changing future.

‘The slow loss no one sees,
until it’s told’

Unlike a single traumatic event, LGMD2i is a slow unraveling. It requires those affected, and their families, to constantly adapt, not just physically, but emotionally and socially. Every step becomes a negotiation. Every year brings new limits. Yet beneath the surface lies not just struggle, but resilience, humor, hope, and humanity. We follow a parent grappling with their child’s diagnosis and the long road ahead, a teen drifting from peers as their body changes, a young adult confronting love and vulnerability, and an older patient reflecting on what’s been lost, and what remains. These personal stories are woven together by the unifying presence of a community that finds strength in shared experience, culminating in a gathering where voices, once silent, speak out.

“Tame the Dark” doesn’t just inform, it connects. It reveals the emotional toll of a progressive condition often invisible to the public eye, while championing awareness, advocacy, and the quiet power of those living it every day. This is not just a film about a disease, it’s a film about people, time, and what it means to hold on to dignity, hope, and connection when the body fades, but the spirit does not.
