Transformation of Istanbul

Every day 500 newcomers arrive in Istanbul, the Turkish city on the Bosphorus where between 15 and 17 million people already live. At breakneck speed, neighborhoods of flats are being built. Both illegal and historic neighborhoods must be razed to the ground for this purpose. A third bridge across the Bosporus will open up these new neighborhoods with millions of residents.

Together with the award-winning photographer Daimon Xanthopoulos, Rik Delhaas made an audio slideshow about Istanbul, a metropolis with growing pains. Broadcast by Holland DOC, VPRO radio bureau buitenland and the IABR.
